Should I wait out filing bankruptcy if debt collectors are leaving me alone?
#1
If you have had prior bad credit and still have open unsatisfied collection accounts and your debt collectors are leaving you alone, maybe it may be wise to take a gamble and try to wait out filing bankruptcy. The older your collection account is, the better your chances are that the collection agency will not pursue collection activities against you. Filing bankruptcy will wipe out all of your debts and get you a fresh start. However, if your old collection accounts are 3 or more years old, you may be able to skate those debts until the statute of limitations runs out. Also, all derogatory items will fall off your credit report after 7 years from the date of last activity.
