Why do all deposit funds in the bank account need to be paper trailed?

If you need to use an irregular deposit, large deposit, or cash deposit in your bank account, it needs to be sourced if the odd deposits happened in the past 60 days. Plus you cannot have any overdrafts in the past 60 days. These are not mortgage lender guidelines, but Fannie Mae and HUDs mortgage lending guidelines. Any irregular deposit of $200 or more needs to be sourced if you want to count it towards the purchase of your home. You can make any deposit you like but if it is not sourced, it cannot be used towards assets.
